- Q: What exactly is a serum? How do they differ from other skin care products like moisturizers?
- A: Unlike other formulations, serums comprise smaller molecules, so the main ingredients are delivered deeper in to the skin to provide quicker results. They are light-weight and similar in texture to a gel or oil. Serums can also tackle about any beauty concern including dehydration, redness, discoloration, acne, and fine lines and wrinkles. Moisturizers help moisturize the surface of the skin by replacing lipids and creating a barrier. The molecular structure of a traditional moisturizer is larger than a serum, so the ingredients will not penetrate as deeply. It is not uncommon to use a serum first, followed by a moisturizer.
