Breast augmentation is the surgical placement of breast implants to increase fullness and projection of the breasts or to improve symmetry of the breasts. Clinically referred to as augmentation mammoplasty, the procedure is used cosmetically to:
- Enlarge a naturally small breast with breast implants, most commonly the result of heredity.
- Restore breast volume lost following pregnancy with breast implants, as a result of breast-feeding or due to weight loss.
- Achieve better symmetry when breasts are moderately disproportionate in size and shape with breast implants.
Breast augmentation, breast implants does not however correct sagging breasts. In cases where a woman desires to enhance breast fullness and at the same time improve the position and shape of sagging breasts, a breast lift may be performed in conjunction with breast augmentation.
Breast augmentation is a highly individualized procedure - one that you should choose to undergo to fulfill your own desire for enhanced breast size, not the desire of others. Permanent breast enhancement can only be achieved surgically throught breast augmentation, breast implants, breast lifts, and other related surgery. There is currently no medical treatment of any kind for breast enhancement with the proven results and satisfaction of breast augmentation.
Adult women of any age can benefit from breast augmentation, breast implants to enhance small breast size or restore fullness. However, it is recommended that breasts be fully developed prior to breast augmentation. You should also be aware that breast augmentation does not generally interfere with a woman's ability to breastfeed.
Liposuction, also called lipoplasty or suction lipectomy, is the surgical removal of localized or regional excess fatty tissue. There are three common variations to the liposuction procedure:
- Traditional liposuction, simply defined as surgical suctioning of excess fat deposits.
- The tumescent or super-wet technique that requires an infusion of saline solution, with added adrenaline and possibly anesthetic prior to removal of excess fat.
- Ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty or UAL, where ultrasonic energy is used to liquefy excess fat prior to surgical suctioning.
These liposuction techniques may be used to reduce localized fat deposits of the:
- cheeks, chin and neck
- upper arms
- breast or chest area
- abdomen and waist
- hips and buttocks
- inner knee
- calves and ankles
In some cases, liposuction is performed alone; in other cases liposuction is used with plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift, male or female breast reduction, or a tummy tuck. Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite, the dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips and buttocks.
Liposuction can, however, permanently reshape body contours where excess fatty deposits create areas that are disproportionately large in an otherwise balanced figure. Ideal candidates for liposuction are adults of any age within 30% of their ideal weight and with firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone.
The effects of pregnancy and childbirth and breast-feeding can ravage a woman's body...loose skin on her belly along with weakened abdominal muscles, loss of breast tissue with an 'empty sock' look, saggin breasts, etc.
I'm seeing a lot of these patients and doing a lot of combination procedures...and of course I'm biased, but the combination of a breast lift and/or augmentation, along with a tummy tuck or lipo can bring back and maybe make an even better shape compared to pre-pregnancy.
The Mommy Makeover is a great combination of surgery...it changes the ratios of bust-line and waist-line and provides a flat belly.
Of course this is cosmetic surgery all surgery has risks and has a significant recovery. I tell people with the Mommy Makeover procedures, or anything that needs a tummy-tuck...expect to take 3 weeks off work, be about 75% better at one month, and not 100% for two months.
We do all these procedures routinely in our certified office surgery suite.
A facelift, technically know as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck.
Sagging in the midface can create a deep crease below the lower eyelid (called a tear trough) and between the nose and mouth (nasolabial fold) that may make you appear tired and sad. Fat that has fallen or is displaced and loss of muscle tone in the lower face may create jowls (a jaw line that sags into the neck). Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw can make even a person of normal weight appear to have a "double chin."
A facelift is designed to correct all of these aging features, restoring a more youthful, rested appearance with uplifted contours and improved tone in facial skin and underlying muscle. Where desired improvement can be isolated to the midfacial region and where excess skin is less a factor, a limited incision facelift may be an alternative to a traditional facelift.
As a restorative surgery, a facelift does not change your fundamental appearance and cannot stop the aging process. Although you will continue to age naturally, aging will progress from the more youthful version of yourself that has been restored by a facelift. Rejuvenation procedures typically performed in conjunction with a facelift are brow lift, to correct a sagging or deeply furrowed brow, and eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes.
A facelift is best performed on adult men and women who feel that their outward facial aging no longer reflects the youth and vigor they feel physically and emotionally.
